Remember when NASA released what was coined ‘the most significant image ever captured?‘ Well, they seem to have outdone themselves with this one. Take a moment and think of how big our universe is. Where are we? Where do things begin? And where does it stop? You don’t have to answer this literally, but simply picture it in your mind. What you are about to see below will likely trump whatever you just imagined in your mind.
The BIG Image
On January 5th, 2015, NASA let out an image of the Andromeda galaxy, which is the galaxy nearest to ours. They captured the image using the NASA/ESA Hubble Telescope once again, but this time it’s been taken to a whole new level. They took 411 images and put them together to create the largest image ever taken. It’s a whopping 1.5 billion pixels and requires about 4.3 GB of disk space!
The image takes you through over 100 million stars and travels more than 40,000 light years. It’s likely to make you feel like you are only a very, very small part of a universe whose size we are only beginning to understand.
There’s not much else to say other than sit back, watch, and enjoy having your mind blown.
This image is like seeing the world for the first time...but it is Heaven! How the personality dissolves into that light filled span of stars is akin to losing track of one's Humanity for those few seconds. Brilliant are the minds who conceived the Hubble project and even more astounding is what is revealed to our Earth bound intellect, assessing, calculating, and deriving meaning where none should exist and yet we do and are the part of the Universe come to understand itself....in tiny little human brains....Why did the Universe play such a trick on Humanity? Letting us think we have a place of importance? We are but water vapor, held together in a body of temporary muscle, skin and bone. How much more irrelevant could our species possibly be?
